Oh Melbourne, how we love you. As the cultural hotspot of Australia (and arguably the best in every other sense, just saying), you spoil us with your unique personality and cool charisma. You’re that one friend we know we’ll always have a good time with.

This week is no an exception. Free parties, an art fair, cheap movie tix and a Harry Potter Store? You’ve outdone yourself again, you cheeky thaaang.

Lido Cinema’s Birthday Surprise: $5 Tix

Who else misses the days of getting lolly bags after birthday parties? Lido Cinema certainly does. That’s why they’re handing out $5 movie tickets for their third birthday! Book your tickets for August 5 – some of the films playing include Incredibles 2, Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Hitchcock’s The Lady Vanishes and Dr. Knock.

Where to eat

Catching the film during the bright hours of the day? Make an outing of it and head to Sardi cafe, one of our fave brunch spots in Hawthorn. Healthy or unhealthy, the choice of yours – from nourish bowls and vegan smoothies to buffalo chicken burgers and red velvet pancakes. 🤤

A Harry Potter Store Has Opened

Round up your muggle pals – a Harry Potter store has landed in Melbourne. That’s just to add to the Harry Potter mania currently doing rounds (PSA: Lego is releasing a 6020-piece Hogwarts set 😱) The Store of Requirement will be stocked with costumes, memorabilia and collectables. Think potions kits, wands and wizard chess sets. To say that I feel like a child in Honeydukes trying their first Drooble’s Best Blowing Gum is an understatement.

Where to eat

For some much needed fuel after the long, expected queues (don’t say we didn’t try and warn you), stroll down the street to Pabu Grill & Sake. Experience a modern take on the traditional Japanese “Izakaya” (an informal pub). Now open for lunch and dinner, you and your wizarding friends might come for the Japanese food, but stay for the good times (and sake flights).

The Experiment Party at Section 8

Your Friday night plans have been sorted (you’re welcome). This Friday at Section 8, they’re throwing a free live art party. FREE. Just the kind we like. The Experiment features over 50 acts of musicians, performers and artists, and happens simultaneously in Melbourne and Auckland, New Zealand.

They’ll be four-storey high projections, installations and interactive artwork. They’ll be live music and performers from talented folk such as Touchwood, Tony Chocoloney and KOVAC. With the Auckland party live-streamed at the same time, it’ll be double the fun.

Where to eat

End the night right and satisfy those late night cravings. Head to Lord of the Fries on Elizabeth Street to snag some hot chippies, burgers, hot dogs or any other snacks that tickle your fancy. Best of all, their food can be vegan, vegetarian, kosher or halal!

When you pay using the Liven App, you’ll also receive 25% of what you spent at Lord of the Fries in Liven Cash, ready for you to redeem at any of our other partners.

Melbourne Art Fair

August 2 – 5 welcomes back the Melbourne Art Fair. Continuing the 30 years-and-counting tradition, this year’s celebration of contemporary art is set to see 20,000 punters visit the many galleries opening their doors. There will be over 50 cultural institutions showcasing new works and exhibitions from various Australian, New Zealand and Southeast Asian artists. Talks, tours, events and performances have also been arranged to further stimulate your minds.

Where to eat

The Southbank Arts Precinct will play host to this spectacular event. My bet is your stomach might need a feed after perusing through numerous art galleries. Luckily, Southbank has heaps of options – which comes in handy in group situations where someone just can’t seem to decide on what to eat. (We all have that friend).

Feeling like quick and easy Vietnamese street food? Roll’d will provide the goods – 15% of what you pay will be given back to you in the form of Liven Cash. Or maybe a good ol’ healthy and Hawaiian poké bowl? Pokéd make some of the best in the bizz. Pay using the Liven app and receive 10% of what you spend as Liven Cash. Seems too good to be true, I reckon.
